November 19: Statement from Songhees Nation Leadership

Dear Songhees Community,

The health and safety of Songhees members are of the highest priority for the Chief and Council.

Due to the increased numbers of COVID-19 cases in the South Vancouver Island and provincial health orders by Dr. Bonnie Henry, all in-person services and activities taking place at the Songhees Wellness Centre or being offered by Songhees Nation staff are suspended until December 7, 2020.

Songhees Nation has also decided to close the Songhees Wellness Centre. The services that are offered including essential health and income assistance, will be offered virtually.

 Notes on Education services:

  • Schools will remain open
  • The Education Department staff from the Wellness Centre can be reached by email while the centre is closed
  • Ellie Dion is our Home/School Liaison. Please contact Ellie Dion at ellie.dion@songheesnation.com for inquiries regarding K-12 students
  • kwum kwum e'lum is open Monday to Thursday from 1-5 pm. Please contact Erin Olson for details and registration at erin.olson@songheesnation.com

Chief and Council will review facility closures and activity suspension on December 3rd to determine the next steps, based on provincial health orders, and COVID-19 case impacts in our region at that time. The Songhees Nation continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation and is taking active precautions and measures to ensure the health and safety of the community.
