POSITION SUMMARY:

Summer Student - The Building Maintenance Worker, under the direction of the Public Works Manager, is primarily responsible for the maintenance of the  Songhees Nation's building assets, including but not limited to lawn care, hauling and garbage removal and building cleaning/inspections.

KEY DUTIES:

  • Clean the roofs and gutters of the band managed homes and buildings
  • Cut the grass and hedges of the band managed homes and buildings
  • Clean the walls and windows and inspect for damage to the band managed homes and buildings

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, techniques, skills, materials, and maintenance of lawns
  • Ability to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Ability to operate a push mower, weed whacker, blower, and basic hand and power tools
  • Ability to perform minor maintenance of building-related equipment
  • Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years old
  • Must be returning to school in September

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Sitting, standing, walking, climbing/ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs multiple times per shift
  • Spends most time outdoors, frequent exposure to various weather conditions.
